INTRODUCTION



On July 24 , 2025 violence erupted near the disputed border temples (preah Vihear and Ta Moan Thom) nearby Thai-Cambodian border . WHAT SPARKED THE CONFLICT ? . In May 2025, a Cambodian soldier was killed under disputed circumstances near Vihear temple . Tension had already been happening due to Thailand's growing military presence alongside the border areas then came the landmine injuries where several Thai troops injured which sparked the fire . Bangkok condemned as ACT OF PROVOCATION . Military drills intensified from both side and unpreventable war happened .

⚔️THE SHOOTING START 



According to Thai officials Cambodian forced opened fire first , targeting civilian areas with rocket and artillery . Afterthat Thai officials claimed that Cambodian forces fired BM-21 rockets , injuring atleast three Thai civilians and two soldiers in Kap Choeng . Thai govt condemned this as a TARGETED ATTACK ON CIVILIANS and deployed six f-16 fighter jets to the areas . On the other hand Cambodian officials said that Thailand entered Cambodian territory . We acted in self-defence . 

CURRENT SITUATION :-

      The Thai military has reportedly launched an incursion into the Preah Vihear province of                                       Cambodia.Heavy shelling is being reported in this sector by both sides.               

  • Thailand has closed its entire border with Cambodia after warning all its nationals there to leave 
  • Cambodia has accused Thailand of using BRUTAL force after the Thai army deployed F-16 fighter jets . It also affected ties between Cambodia and Thailand.
  • As of now 12+ Thai civilians killed . 
  • 40,000+ people have been evacuated from Thai villages 
  • Temples and homes have been severely damaged 
  • F-16 fighter jets have been deployed by Thailand for the retaliation .
  • even UNESCO temples have been in target . 
ORIGIN OF DISPUTE :- 

  • In the early 1900s , Cambodia was under French colonial rule . 
  • The Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1867 forced SIAM (modern day Thailand) to renounce suzerainty over Cambodia , except for certain province .
  • According to the Treaty the border would follow the natural watershed line of the Dangrek Mountains.  

  • However in 1907, a French produced map placed Preah Vihear within Cambodian territory despite its location on Thai soil .
  • Thailand accepted the map at the time but later challenged it , saying that it violated the watershed principle.

 INTERNATIONAL CONFLICT OF JUSTICE (ICJ)



  • IN 1954 , Thailand occupied the temple
  • In 1959 , Cambodia took the case to the ICJ , 
  • n 1962 , the ICJ ruled in favor of Cambodia 
  • Thailand withdraw its troop but the surrounded land remain disputed . 
MODERN CONFLICT :-
  • In 2008 tension rised when temple was listed as UNESCO world Heritage Site , angering Thailand 
  • This led to border clash between both countries from 2008 to 2011.
PREAH VIHEAR TEMPLE :-


  • The temple constructed during Khmer Empire in the 9th century
  • Both nations share rich culture ,heritage , leading to competing claims over historical sites like PREAH VIHEAR 
  • It is dedicated to Lord Shiva .
  • With the decline of hinduism in this region , the site was converted to use by Buddhist.
  • Strategic location - Dangrek Mountains .
